Elementary School Teacher: Special Education
Morningside Academy is a Seattle, Washington not-for-profit organization, with both a laboratory school and a training and consulting team who work with public school districts in the U.S. and Canada.
We seek an elementary school teacher who will be responsible for 8-10 students in each class. Students are grouped by skill level, not age or grade.
Our main criteria for selecting a teacher include:
- A sincere enjoyment of elementary aged children;
- Background in precision teaching and Direct Instruction beneficial but not required;
- Experience designing and implementing cooperative and collaborative learning approaches;
- Excellence in group management;
- A quest to learn more about effective teaching procedures.
We will teach you how to plan a lesson that makes the most of research-based teaching practices.
Successful Morningside teachers are positive and fast-paced in their presentations and interactions. They have clear expectations and thoroughly follow through on instructions and consequences. The successful elementary school teacher applicant will join a dynamic group that has a "children first" values set.
Our hiring process consists of multiple interviews, your opportunities to observe Morningside classes, your sample lesson with our students, and our final interview.
Qualifications include 2 years minimum experience teaching elementary school students. Salary competitive and negotiable. Group Health Cooperative benefits.

Middle School Teacher
Morningside Academy is a Seattle, Washington not-for-profit organization, with both a laboratory school and a training and consulting team who work with public school districts in the U.S. and Canada.
We are looking for a middle school teacher. The teacher will be responsible for 10-15 students in grades 6-9.
The teacher will also participate in the development and testing of a curriculum that is focused upon methods of learning and thinking. The program will focus upon teaching skills: learning-to-learn skills, including personal study habits and collaborative learning methods; thinking, reasoning and problem-solving skills; library and internet research skills, organizational and self-management skills; communication skills; and interpersonal skills. The teacher will strengthen basic reading and writing skills, and teach a daily math curriculum. The teacher is expected to bring content "grist" for the program from natural science, social science, and the humanities. The goal is a program for public middle schools.
